The new TMX pipeline is now operating, triggering a major increase in tankers in Burrard Inlet.
But a credible emergency response plan to protect human health + safety if a major oil spill happens in Vancouver’s Burrard Inlet does not exist.

cape.ca/press_release/… If an Aframax tanker spills 2/3 of its 600,000-barrel load and only 0.5% reaches shore, 25,000+ people will need immediate evacuation, and 105,000+ if the explosive cargo ignites.
Fire- and smoke-related mass casualties would be expected.

@WorldForests Because you've identified yourself, I will respond below.
I'm so sorry this is playing out this way, because I respect many of the colleagues who were not involved in the decision to disinvite me, and do not want their reputations to be harmed by association.

@WorldForests First, I was asked more than once by your committee to confirm my participation asap, as you wanted to begin advertising the conference.
I had asked about speaker fees and travel reimbursement, but did not receive an answer, so assumed at least the latter would be covered.

Yesterday a group of white, male academics disinvited me from their conference after I asked for equitable treatment as the other invited keynote speakers, who also happened to be white and male.

Some background:
I’m a mom and family physician who works in a fee-for-service practice, which means that if I’m not seeing patients in clinic, I don’t get paid.
I’ve been the primary wage earner, and at times the only wage earner, in my family for over a decade.
